Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing legal proceedings that could potentially affect his chances of re-election in 2024. Trump raised concerns about the timing of the trials, scheduled for March and May of that year, as they may keep him away from the campaign trail during a crucial period.
Recently, a federal judge ordered Trump to appear in court this Friday in relation to allegations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election. There are also expectations of further charges related to the same alleged conspiracy, but focusing on the state of Georgia.
During a rally in New Hampshire, Trump criticized Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution, labeling him as “deranged.” Trump accused Smith of investigating claims that he unlawfully stored national security secrets, falsified business records, and attempted to corruptly overturn an election. Trump also accused President Joe Biden of deliberately timing the trials to coincide with the election.
Expressing his frustration, Trump questioned how his political opponent, Biden, could put him on trial during a campaign that he believes he is winning by a large margin. He expressed concerns about the burden of fighting what he considers to be baseless accusations and charges, which is taking away time and funds from his campaign activities.
Trump is currently facing multiple criminal investigations, including allegations of concealing hush money payments to a porn star, mishandling classified documents, and involvement in the overturning of the 2020 elections. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is also involved in various civil suits.
