A recent survey conducted by Quinnipiac has found that a majority of registered Republican voters are rallying behind former President Donald Trump in the GOP primary race. These survey findings, along with others, indicate that Trump not only leads in the primary race but also enjoys significant support from the Republican voter base.
Front Runners and Their Supporters in the GOP Primary
According to the survey, 54 percent of registered Republicans and those who lean toward the Republican party are backing Trump as the front runner in the primary race. Trailing behind him is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has the support of 25 percent of voters, marking a notable 29-point difference between the two leaders.
Other Contenders and Their Support
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence both have four percent support each, placing them on equal footing. They are closely followed by South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who have the backing of three percent of respondents. Anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy secured two percent of the votes, while the rest of the candidates did not receive any significant support.
Survey Details and Methodology
The survey was conducted from July 13-17, 2023, with a sample size of 2,056 U.S. adults. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 2.2 percent. Out of these participants, 1,809 identified themselves as registered voters, carrying a margin of error of +/- 2.3 percent. Additionally, 727 respondents identified as Republican or Republican-leaning voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percent.
Trump’s Response to Grand Jury Appearance
It’s important to note that this survey was conducted before the revelation that Trump is a target of the January 6 investigation and his upcoming appearance before the grand jury. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration, stating that he has faced constant scrutiny since the beginning of his political journey. He highlighted the “weaponized DOJ and FBI” targeting those who raise concerns about alleged election irregularities. Trump emphasized his commitment to fighting for the American people despite these challenges and mentioned the political weaponization of law enforcement and its implications for the nation. His remarks received support from Republican figures, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who echoed the sentiment that Americans would not tolerate such treatment.
