During the Ozaukee County Fair Demo Derby in Wisconsin, a 22-year-old driver experienced severe burns after his car caught fire in the pit. The incident took place in Cedarburg on Friday evening. Damage to the fuel tank occurred while the driver was participating in the derby. Despite no longer actively taking part, the driver parked his car in the pit area. While trying to start the vehicle, it unexpectedly burst into flames, causing extensive burns all over his body. Fortunately, fellow participants and friends swiftly helped him escape the car before fire officials arrived to put out the fire. He was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment of burns ranging from first to third-degree. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, and the police have commended the prompt response of those present, stating that it likely saved the driver’s life. Extra fire and emergency medical services teams were on standby for the subsequent night’s derby.
